Scheduled pricing rules
A pricing rule is a discount that applies automatically during a window you define. Happy hour on the drinks category from 4pm to 6pm, Monday to Thursday. The screen is Dynamic Pricing, with the heading Pricing Rules.
- Plans
- Bistro, Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
- Can it be switched off?
- Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”Catalog → Pricing Rules. Requires the tenant.pricing_rules.manage permission — there is
no view-only level for this screen, so anyone who can open it can change it.
Building a rule
Section titled “Building a rule”Select Add Rule. A rule has four parts.
1. Scope — what it applies to
Section titled “1. Scope — what it applies to”| Scope | Shown as |
|---|---|
| A single product | Product: Pale Ale |
| A whole category | Category: Drinks |
| Everything | Global rule |
2. Discount
Section titled “2. Discount”Discount Type and Discount Value — a percentage off, or a fixed amount off.
3. Schedule
Section titled “3. Schedule”| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Start Date / End Date | The calendar window the rule exists in. |
| Start Time / End Time | The daily window inside it. |
| Days of Week | Mon–Sun, or Every day. |
4. Priority and stacking
Section titled “4. Priority and stacking”Priority decides which rule wins when more than one matches the same item.
Stackable decides whether a rule can combine with another matching rule, or whether it applies alone.
The combination matters. A global 10% rule and a 20%-off-drinks rule both match a beer at 5pm. If neither stacks, priority picks one. If both stack, the guest gets both. Decide which you meant before you publish them — a kitchen will not notice, but your margin will.
Pricing rules versus coupons
Section titled “Pricing rules versus coupons”| Pricing rule | Coupon | |
|---|---|---|
| Applied | Automatically, in its window | When someone enters a code |
| Guest needs to know anything? | No | Yes — the code |
| Usage limits | No | Yes |
| Scope | Product, category or global | The whole order |
Use a rule for “every Tuesday, pizzas are $5 off”. Use a coupon for “here is a code for your next visit”.
Editing and deleting
Section titled “Editing and deleting”Rules are searchable by name. Edit Pricing Rule changes one in place, confirming with Rule updated. Deleting asks “Delete this rule?” and there is no trash — a deleted pricing rule is gone, so note down the numbers of anything seasonal you may want back.
