Tax and pricing

Setup → Tax & pricing is where money is defined rather than counted. The dashboard describes it as Review locked currency and tax details, choose how prices include tax, and configure coupons and channel pricing.

Most of the top half is read-only on purpose.

Currency is not a field you choose. The screen says Currency is set automatically based on your country. Contact support if you need to change it. Your country is set on Localisation, and it is the field that drives currency, the tax rate and which legal registration fields you see.

This is deliberate: a restaurant quoting euros while filing Australian BAS is a reporting problem nobody notices until the end of a quarter.

The tax ID is not typed here either — it is Synced from your Legal Details submission. It appears on customer receipts and PDF invoices for compliance. To change it, change it on Legal details and resubmit.

The VAT rate is Set by your country’s tax authority. Contact support to configure a custom rate. Where we have no rate configured for your country yet, the field reads N/A — not configured for this country rather than guessing a number.

One switch, and it changes what every price in your catalogue means.

Setting What your menu prices mean
Prices include tax (on) Your menu prices already include tax — we extract it for reporting.
Prices include tax (off) Your menu prices are before tax — tax is added at checkout.

Get this right before you load your menu. Switching it later does not reprice anything: a A$10.00 item becomes A$10.00 plus tax, and your whole menu silently gets more expensive.

German and most European venues are normally tax-inclusive. Australian venues quoting GST- inclusive prices are too.

A single switch decides whether discount codes exist at all. With it off: Coupons is hidden from the menu and staff cannot apply coupon codes on Register or checkout.

Plans
Bistro, Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
Can it be switched off?
Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.
Needs first
Menu catalogue. This stays off until all of them are in your plan and switched on.

Creating and managing the codes themselves is on Coupons and discounts.

Off by default, and worth reading the dashboard’s own explanation before switching it on:

Off by default: every channel uses the product list price. When on, set default % on the list price below; optional per-product absolute overrides stay available on Products. Delivery uses the takeaway item price; delivery fee is configured separately under Delivery. Variant option prices scale with the channel base (no separate variant channel prices).

Three percentages, each a percent of the list price, negative for a discount:

  • Dine-in
  • Takeaway and delivery
  • Aggregator / marketplace

So -5 on dine-in is five percent off the list price for dine-in orders. A marketplace that takes a 30% commission is the usual reason to set a positive aggregator figure.

Per-product absolute overrides live on the product itself — see Prices by channel.
