Reviews and online presence

Setup → Reviews & presence — Social links, Google reviews, and custom domains for your storefront.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn URLs. Whatever you fill in is available to your storefront theme; leaving one blank leaves the icon out rather than linking nowhere.

Can it be switched off?
Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.

Connect your own Google Places API key to show up to five Google reviews on your storefront. Enable the Google Reviews section in Customize storefront after saving.

The key is yours, not ours. You create it in Google Cloud Console, you own the quota, and the hint on the field is the whole setup: Enable Places API (Place Details) in Google Cloud Console. Restrict the key to your server IP or domain.

Restricting the key matters. An unrestricted Places key found in a page source can be used by anyone, billed to you.

  1. A Place ID. It comes from your business address — set the address using Google autocomplete on Business profile and the Place ID is captured for you. The screen says either Business Place ID is set from your address. or Set your business address using Google autocomplete so we can find your Place ID.
  2. A Places API key with Places API (Place Details) enabled and restricted.
  3. Show Google reviews on storefront turned on.
  4. The Google Reviews section enabled in your storefront’s customiser — see Customise your storefront. Saving the key here does not put reviews on the page by itself.

Optionally add your Google Maps business page URL for the View all on Google link.

Test connection reports your rating and total review count and fetches a preview. Refresh reviews caches reviews for the storefront.

Reviews are cached, not fetched live on every page view — that is what keeps your Places quota from being spent by storefront traffic. A new review appears after a refresh, not instantly.

Five is the ceiling. Google’s Place Details API returns at most five reviews, and no setting raises that.

Needs first
Branded storefront. This stays off until all of them are in your plan and switched on.

If your storefront is hosted on a custom domain (e.g. myrestaurant.com), add the full origin URL here. This allowlists CORS and becomes the preferred SEO public URL (canonical, sitemap, JSON-LD) when Marketing & SEO canonical is empty. The platform subdomain is then set to noindex.

Three things happen at once when you set this, and the third is the one to understand:

  1. Requests from that origin are allowed.
  2. Your canonical URL, sitemap and structured data use that domain.
  3. Your platform subdomain is set to noindex — so Google indexes one address rather than two copies of your menu.

Enter the full origin, including https://. A canonical set explicitly under Marketing & SEO wins over this field — see Marketing and SEO.
