Plans
Bistro, Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
Can it be switched off?
Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.
Needs first
Menu catalogue. This stays off until all of them are in your plan and switched on.
Field What it controls
Code What the customer types or you scan. This is the identifier
Name For your own reference
Fixed / Percentage Whether the value is money off or a percentage
Discount Value The amount or the percentage
Max Discount Amount A ceiling on a percentage coupon
Min. Order Below this the coupon is refused
Usage Limit How many times it can be used in total
Expires At YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS
Active Off suspends it without deleting it

Max Discount Amount is the one to set on any percentage coupon that could land on a large table. “20% off” with no ceiling is 20% off a $600 bill.

The list shows usage as you go — Used 34 / 100 — and whether each coupon is Active or Inactive.

At checkout, Apply Coupon takes a typed code or a scan. A code that does not pass is refused outright:

Invalid or expired coupon

That one message covers several causes. The specific refusals you may also see tell you which limit was hit — the order being under the Min. Order, the Usage Limit being exhausted, the coupon being past Expires At, or it being set Inactive.

So when a customer insists a code works, check those four in that order. The code itself is rarely the problem.

Coupons only appear in the app’s menu, and codes are only accepted on Register, when coupons are switched on for the location:

Show Coupons in the menu and allow coupon codes on Register

That is a per-location setting, so a code that works at one branch can be unavailable at another by design. See Coupons and discounts.
