Staff and devices on the device

A manager can run both staff and devices from the tablet without going to a PC. Add a staff member and Devices cover the concepts.

Plans
Bistro, Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
Can it be switched off?
No. It is part of every plan that includes it and cannot be switched off.
Limit
Up to 500 (users). Your own limit is set on your plan and may be lower.

Name, role, username, and then the two things that decide how they sign in:

Login type Means
Email login They sign in with their email address and a password
Quick access (username) They sign in with a username, for a shared-tablet floor

Plus a PIN (6 digits) where their role needs one — a PIN is what authorises a void or a discount approval at the till, so it is a credential, not a convenience.

Device modes are managed separately under Devices — adding a person does not configure a tablet.

Plans
Bistro, Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
Can it be switched off?
Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.

Every POS login registers the tablet it is on:

Each POS login registers this restaurant’s devices as Solo until an owner or manager changes the mode.

So a new tablet is a Solo device until someone decides otherwise. A device has a status:

Status Means
Active In use and allowed
Logged out Registered, nobody signed in
Blocked Revoked — it cannot sign in
Plans
Signature, Enterprise
Can it be switched off?
Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.
Limit
Up to 200 (devices). Your own limit is set on your plan and may be lower.
Action Effect
Edit / Save Rename it, change its mode, change its location
Log out Ends the session on that device. It can sign in again
Revoke Blocks it. It cannot sign in until allowed again
Allow again Lifts a revoke

Revoke is the one to use for a tablet that has gone missing — it stops that device signing in at all, which Log out does not.

Another active Hub already exists for this location. Only one Hub per LAN is recommended.

Two Hubs on one restaurant’s Wi-Fi means waiter handsets cannot tell which to talk to, and orders go to whichever one answered first. Pick one tablet as the Hub and set the rest to Solo or Worker — see Device modes: Solo, Hub and Waiter.

This device’s settings → LAN connectivity is where you find out whether a Hub and its waiters can actually see each other:

Hub and waiter devices talk over the restaurant Wi‑Fi. Use Check now if orders are not syncing.

On a Hub you get the listening port, whether it is visible to waiters on Wi-Fi, how many waiter devices are connected, and when each was last seen. On a waiter handset you get Looking for hub…, Connected to hub … or Not connected to hub.

Where the device cannot do discovery at all:

This device cannot discover a hub (NSD/mDNS unavailable).

That is a network or device limitation, not a RestroManage setting. Those devices need to be run as Solo.
