Order voids report
Removing an item from a bill after it has been sent is the most common way money leaves a restaurant quietly. This report exists to make that visible. Its own intro says it plainly: “Review manager-approved removals against the sales each staff member recorded.”
- Plans
- Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
- Can it be switched off?
- Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.
Opening it
Section titled “Opening it”Money → Order voids. Set a period, and optionally a location. The table lists void lines, not orders, so one order with two items removed appears twice.
Void rate, and why it is per person
Section titled “Void rate, and why it is per person”Each staff member’s Void rate is measured against that person’s own paid sales in the period. A waiter who took A$4,000 and voided A$40 is at 1%; a waiter who took A$400 and voided the same A$40 is at 10%. Comparing absolute void totals across a busy and a quiet section tells you nothing, which is why the report does not.
Two consequences worth knowing before you read the numbers:
- Approvers with no sales show a blank rate. A manager who approves voids but never takes payments has no denominator, and the report shows a blank rather than a misleading percentage. A blank is not a zero.
- The rate moves with the period. A single large void in a quiet week is a high rate and usually innocent. Read a trend over several weeks, not one row.
Columns
Section titled “Columns”| Column | Reading |
|---|---|
| Requested by | Who asked for the removal — usually the person holding the table |
| Approved by | The manager who authorised it |
| Reason | One of the six reason codes below |
| Approval source | Where the approval happened — on the device, or synchronised later |
| Approval method | How the approver identified themselves — PIN or TOTP |
| Amount / Void rate | The money, and the requester’s rate for the period |
The six reason codes
Section titled “The six reason codes”Every void carries one: Customer changed mind, Wrong item, Item unavailable, Quality issue, Duplicate item, Other. They are not interchangeable in what they tell you — Wrong item and Duplicate item point at order entry and are usually a training or layout fix, Quality issue points at the kitchen, and a run of Other means nobody is reading the list.
Offline voids and the review queue
Section titled “Offline voids and the review queue”A void approved while the till was offline cannot have its approval evidence re-checked against the server, so it is flagged. The report gives you an Offline only filter and a count: {count} offline void lines need review, with the explanation that “Their approval evidence could not be re-verified during synchronization.”
Who can void, and who can approve
Section titled “Who can void, and who can approve”Voiding an item is deliberately two people:
- Requesting a void needs
tenant.orders.manage. - Approving it needs
tenant.orders.void_itemsand a live PIN or TOTP check at the moment of approval. The approval is verified in the void service itself, not in the screen, so it cannot be clicked past.
Voiding a payment is a different thing and a different permission — tenant.payments.void,
held by managers and the owner. A cashier can refund but cannot void a payment. See Who can do
what with cash.
When there are none
Section titled “When there are none”No voids in this period. on a period you know had voids means either the location filter is on another branch, or the removals were done before the items were sent — which is not a void and is not recorded as one.
