An order will not sync

Sync failed - see Sync failed filter

An order taken while the device was offline could not be uploaded. The order is safe on the device; what failed is the upload.

Orders → Sync failed. That filter exists so these never hide among the day’s normal orders.

Retry without changes sends it again exactly as it is. Use this when the cause was the connection — the usual case. If the connection is back, it will go through.

Discard local order removes it from this device:

This permanently removes the unsynced order from this device. It was never uploaded to the server.

Read that second sentence. Nothing is being deleted on the server, because nothing ever reached it. Discard is for a duplicate, a test, or an order that was voided verbally and never should have existed.

Then the server rejected it rather than never hearing it. Common causes:

  • The table it refers to was deleted or moved to another room.
  • A menu item on it was deleted rather than deactivated.
  • The device’s session expired while it was offline, so sign in again and retry.

The device uploads automatically when the connection returns, so most offline orders never appear in this filter at all. What produces a backlog is a device left offline for a long time and then closed, or a tablet on a guest network that looks connected but cannot reach anything.

See Offline behaviour.
