The Kitchen display

Kitchen is the kitchen display. It is a screen for the people cooking, not a report, and it is designed to be read across a hot pass.

Column What is in it
New Tickets Orders that have come in and nobody has started.
In Prep Orders someone is cooking.
Ready to Serve Orders finished and waiting to go out.

A ticket moves with Bump, Mark Ready and Mark Served. Each of those writes the matching order status, so the Orders screen, the customer’s tracking page and the waiter’s handset all follow along without anyone retyping anything. Order statuses explained maps the buttons to the statuses.

When there is nothing left the screen says All Caught Up.

A ticket’s items can be ticked off individually, and the ticket’s action button stays disabled until they have all been ticked:

Tick off every item to enable

That is deliberate. It stops a ticket being bumped with one component still in the pan, which is the usual cause of a table getting three of its four plates.

Both kinds of note appear on the ticket: an Order note that applies to the whole order and an Item note on a single line. Allergy information reaches the kitchen through these, so they are shown rather than tucked behind a tap.

Summary opens Kitchen Summary — All items across active tickets — with a total count at the bottom. It is the prep view: how many portions of each thing are outstanding right now, across every open ticket, regardless of which table they belong to.

When there is nothing outstanding it says No active items right now.

The Kitchen screen has its own Printer Settings entry, because the device showing tickets is often the device driving the kitchen printer. Which printers exist, and which gets which ticket, is configured once in the dashboard — see Printers and Receipts and tickets.
