The customer display

The customer display mirrors the sale onto a second screen facing the customer, so they can see what is being rung up and what they paid.

In This device’s settings, enable:

Show cart and totals on the second screen during POS checkout

The setting shows Second display connected when a screen is attached, or No second display detected when there is nothing to mirror to. This is a per-device setting — each till is configured on its own.

State On screen
Idle Welcome, then Your order will appear here
During the sale Each line as 2 × Flat white, any coupon applied, and the running Total
Checking a coupon Checking coupon…
Paid Thank you! with how it was paid

The paid state names the tender honestly: Paid with cash, Paid by card, or Paid with cash and card for a mixed payment, with Cash received and Change where cash was involved.

Screen colors sets the background and text colour. There are five presets — Daylight, Midnight, Warm evening, Deep forest and Charcoal — or you can enter a hex pair:

Enter a six-digit hex color such as #171717.

The screen scores your pair as you choose it and will tell you when it is not readable:

Contrast 2.8:1 · Choose colors with at least 4.5:1 contrast

Take that seriously. A customer glancing at a bright screen across a counter needs more contrast than a designer looking at it from 40cm.

You can add pictures and videos from the device:

Local images and videos rotate full-screen while idle and beside the order during checkout.

With nothing added, the restaurant logo fills the idle screen instead. Promotions are local files on this device, so they are added per till and are not synced from the dashboard.

The preview runs against a sample cart and has three states to step through — Idle, Order and Paid. While the preview is open it mirrors live to the attached screen:

Also showing on the connected customer display

With no second screen you get Connect a presentation display to mirror this preview and the preview stays on the tablet. Open large preview fills the tablet screen, which is the way to check readability without a second monitor to hand.
