Marketing and SEO
Storefront → Marketing / SEO — Tools to make your restaurant findable on Google, maps, and AI answer engines — works for built-in themes and headless sites.
- Plans
- Bistro, Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
- Can it be switched off?
- Yes — an owner or manager can turn it off under Setup → Features.
Do these first
Section titled “Do these first”The page opens with an owner playbook, in order:
- Set the SEO title, description and Open Graph image.
- Complete your location’s address, phone, hours and map pin.
- Add your Google Business Profile URL so listings match your site.
- Verify in Google Search Console and submit your sitemap.
- Add FAQ answers customers actually ask — delivery, parking, allergens.
- If you use a custom or headless domain, serve meta tags, robots and sitemap there.
Step 2 is the one restaurants skip and the one that matters most locally. A consistent name, address and phone — NAP — across your site, Google and directories is the foundation of showing up in local results.
The checklist
Section titled “The checklist”A live checklist tells you which of these you have done: custom SEO title, meta description, Open Graph image, custom favicon, address or phone on a location, Google Business Profile linked, cuisine types set, FAQ published, AI summary written, public domain set, and indexing enabled.
Work down it. It is a better use of an hour than any amount of keyword guessing.
Search listing
Section titled “Search listing”| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| SEO title | Up to about 70 characters. Leave blank to use your business name. |
| Meta description | About 160 characters is the useful length. |
| Keywords | Optional and low priority — modern search engines largely ignore meta keywords. |
| Preferred public URL (canonical) | The highest-priority public origin for canonical tags and the sitemap. Blank falls back to your headless domain, then your tenant host. |
| Allow search engines to index this storefront | The master switch. |
A preview shows how the listing will look.
Local SEO
Section titled “Local SEO”- Cuisines served — comma-separated, used in your Restaurant structured data.
- Price range
- Google Business Profile URL and, optionally, your Google Place ID.
A NAP health panel checks each active location for address, phone, hours and map coordinates, and Copy NAP for listings gives you the details in one go so the version you paste into a directory matches your site exactly.
Answer engines
Section titled “Answer engines”- AI summary — a short paragraph for AI assistants, also served at
/llms.txt. Up to 1000 characters. - FAQ — questions and answers, published at
/faqwith FAQPage structured data and included inllms.txt.
Write the FAQ from what you are actually asked on the phone. Do you deliver, where do I park, can you do gluten free, are dogs allowed. Those are the questions, and answering them in your own words serves both guests and the systems quoting you.
301 redirects
Section titled “301 redirects”From a path to another path or an absolute URL. Useful after domain cutovers — when old links are already out in the world and you do not want them dead.
Social image
Section titled “Social image”The Open Graph image is what appears when your site is shared. Recommended 1200×630 px, up to 2 MB.
Verification and analytics
Section titled “Verification and analytics”| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google Search Console verification | The content value from the verification meta tag. |
| Bing Webmaster verification | The msvalidate.01 content value. |
| GA4 Measurement ID | Google Analytics 4. |
| GTM Container ID | Google Tag Manager. |
Analytics tags load only after visitors accept analytics cookies. That is deliberate and it is not a bug: if your numbers look lower than you expect, this is why, and it is the behaviour your privacy page promises.
robots.txt
Section titled “robots.txt”By default you get a sensible file — Allow /, Disallow checkout/track/dashboard, Sitemap — which keeps crawlers out of order tracking and the dashboard while leaving your menu open.
You can replace it with your own and Remove custom returns to the default. Unless you have
a specific reason, leave the default alone; a hand-written robots.txt with one wrong line can
remove your whole site from search.
Headless and custom domains
Section titled “Headless and custom domains”If your storefront runs on your own front end, the page shows that a headless domain is active and gives you a path SEO API so your own pages can fetch the right meta tags per path. The custom domain itself is set under Reviews and online presence.
