Printing from the device

The POS app talks to printers itself. It does not go through the dashboard’s print agent, which is why a tablet can print happily while an office PC prints nothing. Printers covers the dashboard side.

Plans
Bistro, Brasserie, Signature, Enterprise
Can it be switched off?
No. It is part of every plan that includes it and cannot be switched off.
Type Connection Needs
LAN Over your Wi-Fi or Ethernet The printer’s IP and port
Bluetooth Paired directly to this device The Bluetooth address, and Bluetooth permission
USB Cable to this device Vendor and product ID, and a USB interface
System Android’s own printing A printer Android already knows

Every printer also takes a name, a location and a Paper Width. Paper width decides which receipt layout is used, so a receipt that prints half-width or cut off is almost always this field set wrong.

The screen shows This device IP so you can check you are on the right network at all. If it is blank:

No local IP detected. Connect to Wi‑Fi or Ethernet for LAN printing.

Enter the printer’s IP and port, then Test connection. The app reports reachable or unreachable, and warns when the printer’s address is not on this device’s subnet:

The printer IP should be on the same network as this device.

You cannot skip this step:

Test the connection successfully before adding a LAN printer.

That rule exists because an untested LAN printer is a printer that silently fails during service, when nobody has time to debug it.

Pair the printer in Android first, then pick its address here. The app asks for Bluetooth permission the first time; without it, it cannot see paired devices at all.

Scan USB Devices lists what is plugged in. When nothing is:

No USB devices attached

Then pick the USB Interface. Android asks you to allow access to the device the first time it is used.

Direct Print Test and the test print send a known sample so you can confirm the paper, the width and the cut before trusting the printer with a real order.

A read-only account sees the list but not the buttons:

Ask a manager or cashier to add one.

Printer setup is a managed permission. See Roles and what each person can do.

Which printer gets a given document is decided by the printer’s receipt role and by the categories it covers, not by which device fired the print. A kitchen printer set to tickets only will never print a customer bill, and an item in a category no printer claims prints nowhere.

Leave one kitchen printer’s categories empty so it acts as a catch-all. That is the single setting that stops a newly added menu category going silently unprinted.

Receipt layouts are synced down to the device, not built on the fly. A device that has never synced has no layouts:

Receipt layouts not synced yet — Sync now before printing offline

See Orders not printing for the full fault-finding order.
