Localisation
Setup → Localisation is described as Set country and timezone, date/time formats, and languages for staff defaults, online ordering, and printed receipts.
The language section is the one to read carefully: there are four separate settings and they do not mean the same thing.
Country
Section titled “Country”Country applies to every branch, and the screen warns you what it reaches: Country also locks currency and which legal registration fields you see.
Changing it later is not free:
Changing your country will update the business registration fields in Legal Details. If you have already submitted legal details, you may need to resubmit.
Set it once, at setup, correctly. The timezone field is auto-suggested when you change country, and you can override it.
Timezone
Section titled “Timezone”The timezone decides what “today” means. Your business hours, your day close, your reports and every timestamp on an order are read in it. A venue trading past midnight should sanity-check this before trusting a day report — see Day report and close.
Date and time format
Section titled “Date and time format”| Setting | Options |
|---|---|
| Date format | Year-month-day · Month-day-year · Day-month-year |
| Time format | 24-hour (HH:mm:ss) · 12-hour |
These are display-only. They change how dates read on screen and on printed documents; they change nothing about what is stored.
The four language settings
Section titled “The four language settings”| Setting | What it actually controls |
|---|---|
| Restaurant default language | The dashboard language for staff who have not chosen a personal language, and the default online ordering language. |
| Supported languages | The languages guests can pick from when ordering online. |
| Kitchen receipt language | Printed kitchen and bar tickets only — not the staff dashboard. |
| Customer receipt language | Guest receipts (Beleg) and email receipts. Not staff UI. |
Two rules the screen enforces:
- Supported languages must include the restaurant default. Saving without it fails with Default storefront language must be included in Supported Languages.
- A new online-ordering language needs a theme republish. The locale files ship with the storefront build, so adding a language here and not republishing leaves guests on the old set. See Customise your storefront.
Staff language is personal
Section titled “Staff language is personal”The restaurant default is only a default. Each staff member sets their own dashboard language from the header switcher — so a German kitchen hand can run the dashboard in German while the restaurant default stays English, with no settings change. See Your profile.
Kitchen and customer languages are separate for a reason
Section titled “Kitchen and customer languages are separate for a reason”The kitchen ticket is read by your staff; the receipt is read by your guest. A venue in Berlin with an international kitchen brigade commonly runs kitchen tickets in English and customer receipts in German. Setting the dashboard language does not change either one.
